The PART study will compare Partial Ablation treatments with Radical Treatments for intermediate-risk prostate cancer on one side of the prostate (unilateral). Partial Ablation aims to destroy (ablate) all of the cancer cells just in one side of the prostate gland, using techniques that are less invasive. Radical Treatments aim to remove or destroy all of the cancer cells that might be present in the whole prostate gland (see below for further information). Â The study aims to do the following:
1.    Compare how effective each treatment is at preventing cancer growing, coming back, or spreading outside the prostate gland.
2.    Assess whether each treatment causes damage to nearby nerves and organs that can cause sexual, urinary, or bowel problems after treatment (functional and quality-of-life outcomes).Â
The PART study aims to recruit 800 patients from hospitals across the UK. The results of the study will provide information to help patients, clinicians and policymakers decide which treatment to have for intermediate-risk prostate cancer in the future.
